What is online betting?

Online betting is any kind of betting conducted on the internet. This, of course, includes sports betting. Since the rise of internet and communication technologies, sports betting online has become the most common way for people to place their bets.

As a result, of increasing popularity of the internet in the 20th century, most of the traditional bookmakers and sportsbooks now operate their own websites. With most people nowadays owning a device of some sorts, that has a consistent internet connection, betting has become more available than ever.

Therefore, it goes without saying that online betting on these sites is by far the most convenient way for most people to place their bets on sports. All that has to be done is to choose the site, set up an account and deposit some funds using your personal credit card. This will get you well started in online betting.

Advantages of online betting (in comparison with landscape betting)

It’s easy:

Many people find it intimidating to go and bet at bookmaking shops or sportsbooks as it is not always clear how to go about placing bets. Betting online, however, seems to be a much more straightforward process, that usually takes no more than a couple of minutes.

As described above, setting up an account and depositing some funds is really all you have to do in order to get started. From that point on, is all about finding the games or events you want to place your bet on and confirming your selection and stake.

It’s convenient:

Imagine a scenario in which you have finished lunch on a Saturday afternoon and you are sitting down waiting for the certain game to get started. In that moment you may find out that one of the key players in one of the teams gets an injury during a warm up. You may at this point decide that the other team is now much more likely to get a win, so you decide to place some bet on them.

All that you need to do is turn on your computer, log into one of the online betting sites, deposit some funds, place the wage and get back your attention towards the game.

Certainly, a lot more convenient than having to run to the closest bookmaking shop to place your bet.

Bonuses and odds are almost always better online:

Peaks are something that everyone gets excited about. It is always pleasing to get something extra every now and then. This is exactly what you will get more of betting online.

As there are now countless number of websites for online betting, the competition between them for customers is huge. Therefore, almost all of these sites are trying to attract new customers by offering them certain bonuses.
The most common types of bonuses are the ones that are offered to new users when they first sign in. Basically, giving you some extra funds to your account to use for betting.

This does not stop there, the more popular websites now offer additional bonuses as they want their customers to stick around. For example, you may receive a bonus for the first deposit of every month or even the first deposit of the week.

Everyone that has ever placed a bet knows that the odds are the important aspect of betting. The more favourable the odds, the more likely you are to obtain profit.

On average, odds available online are slightly improved versions of those available elsewhere. For those that are more committed, they may decide to open accounts in multiple sites in order to compare odds and find the most fitting.

Is online betting safe?

One other great advantage of online betting is that it’s safe. Many people may have concerns about the safety of the money they deposit on their account online. However, there is very little chance of any of your money being lost or any of your banking accounts being at risk.
This is because many betting sites are reputable operations. They all have to be licenced, regulated and follow certain strict rules. Additionally, all competent betting sites will have exceptional encryption and cyber protection in order to prevent hackers from invading their system.

These sites could not possibly get away with stealing your money even if they wanted to. It would not be in their interest at all. Online betting has become a huge business and with that comes certain responsibility to constantly meet high standards. Therefore, these sites should have your trust to keep your funds and personal information safe and private.

Sadly, there are some exceptions. It is rare, but some problems can rarely occur. Gladly, these ‘shady’ sites are very easy to avoid. All that you have to do is undergo some research about a certain site before using it, just checking if the site possesses a valid online betting licence. If they hold a legitimate licence authority, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Is online betting legal?

Yes, in most countries (including UK) online betting is perfectly legal. In these countries, there is simply no law against online betting, so placing wages online will cause you no problems at all in the eyes of the law.

However, a thing to keep in mind is that, betting on sites that are based in the United States is not legal, but it is also likely that not many online betting sites are based in the USA. Overall, if you are from one of the countries in which online betting is considered legal by law, you don't have anything to worry about.
