Bayern got their first clean sheet of the season as they demolished lowly Bremer 12-0 in a rescheduled DFB cup game. It was a chance for Chuppo Motting or Leroy Sane to pick their first meaningful performances after some shady moments in the Bundesliga and Super cup final vs Dortmund. Bayern will almost every time found a way to score past the opponent's defense, so sorting the defense will be the main Nagelssman job right now. Hertha’s season start has been awful. They lost two games and in both, they were defeated after they had the advantage. In some moments of matches against Koln and Wolfsburg, Hertha’s players looked like they switched off, made several lousy defensive decisions, and lost winnable games. They were more than busy at the transfer market recently, so maybe that played a role in their focus. Matheus Cunha is already transferred to Atletico Madrid and often injured Ishak Belfodil has been signed from Hoffenheim to replace him in the attack. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp from Ajax transfer was agreed on Thursday evening so Hertha moved pieces trying to make a bigger roster for a long season.
Stevan Jovetic started from the bench against Wolfsburg but it is clear that he is by far the most creative player on the team. Maybe Dardai decided to limit his minutes at the start of the season because of Jovetic’s problems with injuries but with him and without him on the pitch, Hertha is a different team. Piatek is still injured, and with Belfodil probably out, Cunha in Madrid, David Selke will lead the offensive line. Kevin Prince Boateng is under question after having problems with a back injury. With Bayern's defensive issues and Lukebakio's speed, Hertha will probably score, but that is not good enough for a major surprise.
