Mikel Arteta looks to be closing in on his strongest side after naming an unchanged team for the first time in his tenure but will need a heroic effort from his players when he faces his former mentor Pep Guardiola. Arsenal were also left frustrated by a 1-1 draw against Benfica in Rome in the Europa League on Thursday night, which may be their only chance for the silverware this season and also the last chance of having European football next season.
As for Guardiola and City, where do we start? They have won 12 league games in a row - they can record 18th straight win in all competitions when they travel to London to take on Arsenal - and have a 10 point lead at the top of the table, plus Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero are back fit and ready to roll. City’s playmakers and defense is looking imperious and it’s hard to see when they will drop any more points this season.
Pep Guardiola would be looking to build on this streak against Mikel Arteta, who previously worked under Pep at City, hoping to dent Arsenal’s European ambitions. The Champions League resumes during the week and Manc City's focus will turn to that shortly, but Pep Guardiola has made it clear to his players to ignore the schedule and play matches as they come. He will rotate his first eleven to keep players fresh as Man City remain in contention for all four competitions they entered back in August.
