The game kicks off at 8.15pm (UK) when Aston Villa host Arsenal on Tuesday 21 July at the Villa Park in Birmingham.
Aston Villa are desperately fighting for survival, with 31 points in the 18th place, three points from safety. They drew their previous match at Goodison against uninspired Everton (1:1) on Thursday, and scrapped maximum three points against Crystal Palace the week before, in a last-ditch attempt to save their season. With two games left, their survival depends as much on them as on other teams above them, namely, Bournemouth and Watford dropping points.
Their Thursday's opponents Arsenal, are reinvigorated at the moment, after back-to-back victories against champions Liverpool in the PL (2:1), and Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final (2:0).The Gunners will secure the Europa League group spot if they go on to win the FA Cup, but their hopes of qualifying through the league are still alive. They are 10th in the PL, three points behind the possible spot for the second qualifying round of the Europa League, which will depend on whether any of the remaining PL teams win their European competitions, or win the FA Cup.
ASTON VILLA VS ARSENAL MATCH ANALYSIS
Aston Villa claimed their first two consecutive games without a defeat since January, but it may not be enough to stay up in the top division next season. Still, they have won only one match at home in their last seven games in all competitions (W1,D1,L5), which is their only victory in the last twelve PL games. Against Everton, they were given a death blow by a late goal from Theo Walcott. Until then, they were well-disciplined defensively, but lacked the edge in the final third.
Dean Smith, Villa's manager reckons his men will probably have to come out with maximum points from their last two fixtures against Arsenal and West Ham in order to stay up. They will have to cut down individual errors, be better at defending set pieces, and try to spend more time in Arsenal's half. Anyhow, time is surely running out for them.
Arsenal's win on Saturday was a personal triumph of Mikel Arteta over Pep Guardiola, his former boss at City. His game plan paid off, as they were patient and creative in possession. David Luiz was rock solid (which is not something we're all used to), and Aubameyang was a constant threat, and is deservedly among the league's elite group of players.
Arsenal don't have a staggering record away from home this season. They have six victories from ten games in all comps (W6,D1,L3), but according to stats, they have won their final away game in the last three seasons with eight goals for, and two against them.

Villa's owners spent big after the promotion, and despite reaching the Carabao Cup Final this season, they haven't fulfilled their potential in the Premier League, with their immediate return to the Championship more likely than not.
The Gunners, on the other hand, will have to neutralize the struggling Villa's threat from set pieces, as aerial duels are probably Arsenal's biggest weakness. If they deliver more of the same as in their last couple of games, Villa will have no chance.
