Crotone and Spezia were promoted from Serie B over the summer, but have had a very different approach to life in the top flight.
While Crotone has struggled badly to score goals and sit rock bottom of the table, with coach Giovanni Stroppa under increasing pressure, Spezia has impressed with their attacking approach, organized tactics under Vincenzo Italiano, and interesting new faces. The differences are evident, from Spezia’s 10 points to Crotone’s eight, but also 14 goals scored to just six. The statistics are astonishing, as only six of Crotone’s 96 attempts on goal were converted. Since 2011-12, only one of the 10 newly-promoted teams who picked up at least 10 points in the opening 10 rounds ended up relegated. That was Frosinone in 2015-16.
Napoli ran riot at the Stadio Scida with another 4-0 victory, including great goals from Lorenzo Insigne and Andrea Petagna. The Partenopei broke through in Crotone with a classic Insigne right-foot curler into the top corner, then provided the assist for Chucky Lozano. The hosts crumbled with Jacopo Petriccione’s straight red card for a tackle over the ball on Diego Demme. Dries Mertens came off the bench and created two goals for Demme and Petagna.

Lazio took all three points with two moments of sheer quality from Ciro Immobile and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, but Spezia was so unlucky. The Biancocelesti got the job done early on with an inspirational Milinkovic-Savic, who created one goal for Immobile and scored the second with a precise free-kick. Spezia largely controlled the game and had numerous chances, especially when Neuhel Estevez and Simone Bastoni rattled the frame of the goal. M’Bala Nzola did get one back eventually with a fantastic curler on the counter, but Andreas Pereira saw a late Lazio goal chalked offside.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches.
