Inter has canceled Antonio Conte's press conference ahead of Wednesday's game against Roma. The news broke after it emerged that President Steven Zhang had met the team asking the players to give up on two months' wages. Conte has yet to take a pre-match press conference since Inter won the Serie A title two weeks ago. He left the press conference to his staff before the Sampdoria clash last week and won't talk to the media before the Roma clash. According to reports in Italy, Conte was not involved in meeting between the players and Zhang, and it is unclear whether he will be required to take a pay cut as well.
Regarding several media reports, Conte's press conference was canceled to avoid spreading rumors about off-the-pitch matters and the Inter coach will give an interview with Inter Tv. Conte is due to meet Zhang in the coming weeks to discuss his future at the club. His contract expires in June 2022, but it remains to be seen whether he will accept to stay for one more season if the club decides to sell some of their top players to keep the books in order.
Champions of Italy Inter let loose with a 5-1 thrashing of Sampdoria, including an Alexis Sanchez cushioned volley as part of his brace. The Nerazzurri were in the mood to show off at San Siro after clinching the Serie A title, so set aside tactical concerns to enjoy themselves. Roberto Gagliardini grabbed a rare goal four minutes in, then he provided the inspired assist for Alexis Sanchez. Keita Balde Diao did get one back after Samir Handanovic’s tricky save on Antonio Candreva, but Sanchez responded within seconds with a wonderful finish. Andrea Pinamonti marked his first goal in the Inter jersey and Lautaro Martinez converted a penalty.

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca said advancing to the Europa League semi-final made the Giallorossi ‘focus less on Serie A’. The Giallorossi sit seventh in the league with three games remaining and Fonseca was asked if his men had focused more on their run in the Europa League in 2021. “The evaluation is made after the season, as I have always said,” Fonseca said at a press conference. “I think it wasn’t voluntary. The truth is that getting into a semi-final in Europe is important and the lads have unconsciously focused less on the championship. Inter are a great team,” Fonseca added. “I have to congratulate them on the title. Now, they have no pressure and can be dangerous given the quality of their players. At all times we have seen a strong team and it will be strong too against us.”
Fonseca confirmed he will recover some players from injuries ahead of the match against the Nerazzurri. “We will have [Stephan] El Shaarawy, Carles Perez, and [Gonzalo] Villar available.” Real Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral has scored 10 times in 29 Serie A games and has been preferred over Edin Dzeko since the falling out with the Bosnia international. Fonseca said he couldn’t guarantee anything for the Spanish striker when Jose Mourinho arrives ahead of next season. “I will not be the coach next season,” Fonseca added. “Borja is a young lad and it’s not easy for a striker to arrive here and score many goals. He’s having a good season, but it’s a decision for the club and the new coach.”
