Leeds host Tottenham at the Elland Road (Leeds) in the 35th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, May 8. Read our reasons for Leeds vs Tottenham prediction and betting tips.
After a 2-0 defeat at Brighton and with four games remaining in the season Leeds are mathematically safe by a distance and eyeing a top-half finish, although European qualification is now highly improbable. On the other hand, Tottenham made it two wins from two Premier League games under interim manager Ryan Mason on Sunday with a comfortable 4-0 victory over Sheffield Utd. The win moves the Spurs into fifth place, five points below Chelsea in fourth. With four games left to be played, there is absolutely no room for error.
Leeds surrendered a six-match unbeaten run in a rather tame fashion when going down 2-0 at Brighton, with the midfield bite of Kalvin Phillips sorely missed. With hopes of sneaking into Europe now gone, there is always a worry that Leeds will start looking towards their summer holidays. However, they deserve the benefit of the doubt, for now, having previously followed up a win at Man City by holding Liverpool and Man Utd to draws here.
However, the performance against Brighton was lacking, in a way that does not reflect how Leeds have played in their first season back in the top flight for 16 years. They have become known as the entertainers thanks to the attacking football they play and the number of games that have seen goals fly in at both ends. In Bielsa’s eyes, there are obligations beyond just finishing above the drop zone so we expect his side to respond to a poor all-round display against the Seagulls when they welcome Spurs.
On the other hand, Tottenham are longshots for a top-four finish but haven’t given up on that target, judged on a 4-0 drubbing of Sheffield Utd in London. Gareth Bale hit a hat-trick before Son Heung-min finished off the scoring in fine style, while Harry Kane and Dele Alli also impressed up front. Spurs still have to play Wolves, Aston Villa and Leicester after this but interim boss Mason is not looking any further ahead than the trip to Yorkshire.
Ryan Mason will have quite simply performed heroics if he leads his team into the Champions League. The sacking of Jose Mourinho was no shock, but the timing was undoubtedly surprising. However, a late push for fourth would see the decision pay off in spades. Currently, it does appear unlikely. The improved showings against Southampton and Sheffield Utd handed them six key points, but it may already be too little, too late.
