TRICKY HOME GAME FOR CITY AT THE START OF GROUP STAGE
After winning their last three Premier League games ‘to nil’, Man City will look to carry that form into the Champions League, where they share Group A with another pre-tournament favourite, PSG. Having lost the 2020/21 final, this is their chance to grab an important three points before a trip to Paris next week, and a formidable home record vs German teams should have Leipzig quaking in their boots for their first-ever clash with City. For a side that finished second in the 2020/21 Bundesliga, it’s been a hugely disappointing start to 2021/22 so far (W1, L3). Key player departures haven't helped, but that’s still the worst four-game Bundesliga start Leipzig have ever recorded, so the pressure is already growing on new coach Jesse Marsch. This looks likely to be a tough 90-minutes for the visitors and if they concede an early goal almost all their hopes of a positive result will disappear.
CITY TO HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH QUALITY TO PUT LEIPZIG TO BED
The Citizens kick off their eternal quest for Champions League glory and after last season's final heartache to Chelsea, Pep Guardiola will be expected to go one better, especially after splashing out £100 million on Jack Grealish. However, with PSG strengthening more than anyone, it could be tougher than ever to land the one prize that eludes them. They do look strong at the back and deadly in front of a goal, the perfect combination for a side aiming to win the title that eludes them.
City have rattled off three straight Premier League victories without conceding, following up 5-0 routs of Norwich and Arsenal by prevailing 1-0 at Leicester. Before the next international break, they also face PSG in this competition and domestic dust-ups with Chelsea and Liverpool. Those are tough games, but when you are in this form, it is easier to keep going because players have a lot of confidence. They should keep the momentum against the Bundesliga runners-up who look to be in transition.
LEIPZIG GOING THROUGH MOTIONS
RB Leipzig lost Julian Nagelsmann to Bayern Munich, who took Dayot Upamecano and Marcel Sabitzer with him and new manager Jesse Marsch will clearly take some time to make an impact judging by their sluggish start to the season. They have lost three out of their first four league games this season including being outclassed by Bayern Munich in a humbling 4-1 weekend defeat. They have also lost to Mainz and Wolfsburg.
After winning their first two Champions League games against English opposition (both v Spurs in 2019-20), RB Leipzig have lost three of their last four such fixtures in the competition, including two defeats to Liverpool in 2020-21. Though Andre Silva should prove a good signing up front, while new team-mate Dani Olmo caught the eye with Spain at Euro 2020, it's hard to see anything other than City cruising to a win here against a side who may take some time to get over their summer upheaval.

Man City set out on the latest bid to end their Champions League hoodoo by hosting an out-of-sorts Leipzig side in Group A.
