Sheffield Utd host Bristol at the Bramall Lane (Sheffield) in the fifth-round tie of the FA Cup and the match kicks off at 7.30 pm (UK) on Wednesday, February 10.
SHEFFIELD UTD VS BRISTOL MATCH ANALYSIS
It could be argued that the FA Cup has contributed to an upturn in fortunes for Sheffield Utd in the Premier League in recent weeks. The Blades have taken the cup seriously and used it to get back on the winning ways, after beating League One sides Bristol Rovers and Plymouth in the last two rounds. Here, Chris Wilder’s men look to complete the double over the Bristol clubs as they welcome Bristol City to Bramall Lane. Dean Holden’s side are currently on a poor run of three successive league defeats and against a Premier League team that have won five of their last eight games in all competitions, the Robins are expected to bow out of the FA Cup here.
Three wins in the league and FA Cup R4 win give Sheffield Utd slim hopes that they can still avoid relegation. The Blades do not lack effort or commitment but, yet again, that has not been enough for them. They don't seem to be able to hurt teams and Chris Wilder admitted himself that his team need an "incredible run" to avoid relegation after their awful start to the season.
Sheffield Utd will shift focus to the FA Cup after their relegation fight took a wrong turn in the loss to Chelsea. With three wins in their last five matches, having scored in four of the last five games, Sheffield will have the favorites’ tag. They’ve seen four of their last five matches produce over 2.5 goals and they’ve scored twice in three of the five. With five wins in six FA Cup matches produced over 2.5 goals we can expect goals on Wednesday night.
As for Bristol, the Robins’ 'streaky' trait has been their theme again this season as they have been switching between winning and losing in their last 10 games in all competitions (W5, L5). Interestingly they haven’t recorded a single draw in 15 matches, sharing the points in the second-tier last on November 25. The see-saw results have seen them slip down to 10th in the league, but with six points less than sixth-placed Bournemouth, they are still in the play-off mix.
The Robins come into this game on the back of three straight losses. Their most recent game was a 2-0 loss to Cardiff City, the second of five games that they failed to score in. They have a solitary clean sheet in their last five games, while three of their last five matches have seen over 2.5 goals scored. On their last seven travels, Bristol suffered six defeats, and have conceded two goals or more in four of their last seven visits. This is going to be their toughest FA Cup game this season, as they face a Premier League side for the first time.
