Sheffield Utd endured another miserable 90 minutes this season when Welsh international Gareth Bale helped himself to a hat-trick, with South Korean star Son capping the rout with a curling finish. The performance left their caretaker manager Paul Heckingbottom frustrated, saying he expects more bravery and energy from his side in the face of relegation. Palace finished last term by picking up just one point in eight games, so Roy Hodgson will be urging his players not to go down the same path. Christian Benteke netted versus Chelsea while Zaha scored at Leicester, so their key forwards still look up for it.
The south Londoners held their own in the first half against runaway champions Man City, but two goals within 83 second-half seconds turned the match in favour of the visitors. Neither battling relegation nor challenging for European qualification, Crystal Palace’s season is petering out and the latest defeat was their fourth top-flight game without a win (D1, L3). and more worryingly their 19th consecutive winless league fixture against a top-six side (D5, L14).
