Wales host Mexico at the Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff) in a Friendly International set in-between the 2022 UEFA World Cup qualification games and the match kicks of at 8 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 27th. Read our reasons for Wales vs Mexico prediction and betting tips.
Wales welcome Mexico for the first time ever to the Cardiff City Stadium on a friendly duty. The hosts are recovering from a 3-1 defeat against Belgium on Wednesday night as they got their Qatar World Cup qualifications campaign going. This will also be an opportunity to work on a setup that the Red Dragons could deploy during the EUROs, which get underway in June. Meanwhile, Mexico have only played international friendlies for the past year, but they do have a CONCACAF Nations League semi-final to prepare for against Costa Rica later in the year. Mexico have won their last two international friendlies against South Korea and Japan, with the latter of those being a 2-0 success in November last year.
In midweek, Wales threatened to cause another major upset against Belgium before succumbing to the stellar quality of the world's number one-ranked side in their opening World Cup qualifier. The defeat was Wales' first in a competitive match since June 2019, ending a national record of 11 games unbeaten. However, this was always likely to be a daunting start to Wales' bid to qualify for a first World Cup since 1958.
Against Mexico, Wales will likely make a number of changes for the fixture, and will likely give a couple of fringe players the opportunity to show what they can do. Gareth Bale will likely be one of the big names to miss out on a cap on Saturday, as the national time will be using his minutes wisely to avoid another setback just as the Spurs winger is finding his best form of the season. Wales’ next qualifier is at home to the Czech Republic - who thrashed Estonia 6-2 in Wednesday's other Group E game - next Tuesday.
As for Mexico, they have been in excellent form recently, having not suffered a defeat since their round of 16 defeat against Brazil in the World Cup in 2018. Mexico have, actually, only lost one of their last 22 matches (W19, D2) since the start of 2019, with that defeat coming in a friendly against Argentina in September 2019. Since then, they have achieved Gold Cup glory with success against the United States, and have notably picked up a friendly win against the Netherlands.
Mexico will be using their two March friendlies, against Wales and Costa Rica, as a chance to get their players back up to speed ahead of the CONCACAF Nations League semi-final on June 3. Gerardo Martino has picked a 26-man squad for the meetings with Wales and Costa Rica in Wiener Neustadt, with Efrain Alvarez given his debut, ending any hope the United States had of making the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder one of their own. Mexico have bigger priorities this year than friendlies, but Martino is expected to name a strong lineup.

Wales meet Mexico for the fifth time and are yet to register a victory after the previous four encounters (D2, L2). However, Mexico have never played away against Wales, with the other four matches played in the USA (twice), Mexico, and Sweden, with the latter a 1-1 draw in the 1958 World Cup.
Wales' defeat to Belgium was just their second in 15 matches, while visitors Mexico are similarly tough to beat. This will be a good game for the hosts as Mexico are a very talented side. However, the fact that Mexico haven’t lost for nearly three years means that they are the favourites coming into this match.
