West Ham and Newcastle open their respective campaigns on Saturday, September 12 at 3pm (UK), at the Olympic Stadium in London.
David Moyes was brought in to salvage the West Ham's 2019/2020 season, and it's a questionable whether he did it or not. They did stay up in top flight, but the team with so many potential and individual quality should have performed better. They were too close to relegation and only some good form at the final stage of the season prevented them from going down.
The Newcastle. on the other hand, had a solid season when everybody expected them to struggle and fight for survival. Manager Steve Bruce had limited funds, but his team performed remarkably well throughout the season. They secured Premier League football with few games to spare in midst of ongoing talks concerning the takeover of the club. Eventually, it boiled down to nothing, and it's doubtful if Steve Bruce will manage to repeat the same success again.
WEST HAM VS NEWCASTLE MATCH ANALISYS
West Ham brought in Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek in January, which turned out to be excellent signings, and coupled with Michail Antonio's fine form , proved to be the turning point of their season. West Ham have a squad filled with talent, but a lot of players lack guidance and favor flair over commitment. Moyes will have to address this issue before the new campaign starts.
They haven't made any breakthrough signings this time, but with those January additions, along Mark Noble and Declan Rice, they have a proper team. If Felipe Anderson and Sebastian Haller find their rhythm, West Ham could finish in top ten without question. Haller, the £45m signing, especially has a lot to offer, only if he regains the confidence that earned him that price.
For the Magpies, Steve Bruce spent on attackers Joelinton and Saint-Maximin, but they had difficulties in finding consistency. Nevertheless, they never looked threatened by relegation, mostly because of their well-organized defense and moments of brilliance in attack. Saint-Maximin was the season's revelation for them, but other team players such as Ritchie, Almiron and Shelvey were in fine form as well.
Newcastle has won nine head-to-head matches, while the Hammers won five, but it won't matter much on Saturday, as they will probably try the cautious approach first beacuse they, truthfully, don't concede much to the sides from the lower part of the table.

Everybody kind of know what to expect from Moyes' teams. It won't be too pretty, and nobody can guarantee that it will be effective again.
