In the last season, Wolfsburg showed that they are capable of grabbing points in several ways but the most constant was playing at home. In the first part of the season, they had one of the best defenses in the league and with many clean sheets, they earned their place in the top half of the table. In the second part of the season, their main goalscorer Wout Weghorst played excellent football, earned his place in the Netherlands squad for EURO, and helped Wolfsburg reach their main goal, fourth place in the standings that leads to the group stage of the Champions League.
It is easy to say that new coach Mark Van Bommel has a tough task to replicate this result handling the club in the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, and Champions League, but the squad is almost the same and Weghorst will have some help in the attack as Germany U21 international Lukas Nmecha scored 18 goals in the Belgium league for Anderlecht before hitting the winner for Germany in the European U21 Championship final against Portugal. Wolfsburg was better than Preußen Münster in the DFB Cup at the weekend, but the next game will be different, as promoted sides are always ready to give their maximum in the first matches of the new season. If Weghorst and Nmecha found synergy early, that will surely help Van Bommel to have some time to gel and adjust in the new club.

Bochum is back in the Bundesliga after 11 years of absence. They were famous for their performances on the home ground and brilliant fan support and we could see something similar in the new season. They were crowned as champions of the last Bundesliga 2 campaign and they will start the season with some confidence in every department. On the other end, Bochum lost their probably best player after attacking midfielder Robert Zulj who had double figures in goals and assists last year, 15 each, moved to the UAE.
They were active in the transfer period, as they will try to find a way to escape relegation from the Bundesliga again. Bochum is competing in their 35th season in the top tier and they have been relegated six times. Elvis Rexhbecaj who is on loan from Wolfsburg should help but not much regarding the tactics because in the last season he had some brilliant performances in a Koln shirt. Former Arsenal winger and ex Partizan Belgrade player Takuma Asano will bring speed and skill to the team but great expectations are on the back of Simon Zoller who had 15 goals in Bundesliga 2 last season as Zulj. He has previous Bundesliga experience as he played for Koln and scored 11 goals in 76 Bundesliga appearances from 2014 to 2018.
